If you are capitalizing on your services as a career, then you need to learn how to market services. For instance, a freelance writer like me would have to advertise my capabilities in order for employers and clients to start hiring me.

Humbleness has no room in a freelancer’s world. If you got it, you have to flaunt it! Of course, you have to be very careful not to appear arrogant because that will discourage employers too. A healthy balance of skill and attitude should make you very attractive.

Make sure you do not over-promise when you do this. Better to go beyond their expectations than to disappoint. Stay true to your experiences and accomplishments.

So how do you market services online? Well it is very easy actually but you need to do it in the right platform.

One of the best places to market services online (especially for independent contractors) are in outsourcing sites. These sites will allow you to create an account for free. Through this account, you can create your profile, apply for jobs, and get hired and paid for the services you will provide.

The great thing about outsourcing sites is the fact that they will do the marketing for you. Employers go to these sites specifically to look for talent. All you need to do is browse through job listings and you can select which projects you want to apply to. Very convenient. indeed!

Top outsourcing sites like Odesk, Elance and Freelancer also have guaranteed payment methods to ensure that you get paid just as promised.

Community Forums
Another platform to market services like freelance writing is in community forums and message boards. The key of course, is to look for the right forum to advertise your services. A writer like me can benefit from joining communities hosted by sites like Freelance Writing. Not only will you have freelancers giving you tips about the industry, you get to join contests and get some great employer connections.

It pays to know people from the same industry to give you helpful advice when you need them. If you get stuck in a rut, you will be surprised at how helpful they can really be!

Personal Website
For a freelance writer, it is a good idea to create your own website to market services to your clients. You can create a personal blog or an informative one like the one that I have here.

Your personal blog can talk about anything that you want – though it is advisable that you have posts that will reveal to your clients that you are knowledgeable about the niche you are catering to.

For informative sites, you can actually create a page containing your contact information – just so interested clients and employers can get in touch with you.

As for me, I market my writing services through all three platforms. Although this site does not contain a contact page, I usually direct potential clients here so they can see what I am capable of.
